What can you expect during your time abroad? Don’t move, sit back and relax—you’re about to get all the answers to your questions! Let’s dive into the Czech Republic together and explore everything about doing your internship abroad in communication and marketing!

To give you some context, the Czech Republic is a country of about 10 million inhabitants, located between Germany, Poland, Austria, and Slovakia. It gained independence from Czechoslovakia in 1993. The country has a rich historical and cultural heritage, with numerous castles and stunning Gothic churches. It is a popular destination where many students choose to do their internships, especially in Prague, the capital. The Czech Republic offers many professional and internship opportunities. The quality of life in Prague is highly attractive, with a relatively affordable cost of living. Additionally, Prague draws students from all over the world, thanks to its several well-recognized and interesting universities, making it a truly cosmopolitan environment.

You don’t speak Czech and are wondering if English is widely used in the Czech Republic? Don’t panic! Very few people speak Czech outside the country, yet, as mentioned earlier, many students go there for internships or studies, proving that it’s totally possible. The official language in the Czech Republic is Czech, but English is widely spoken, especially in major cities and tourist areas. You won’t have any trouble making yourself understood or communicating with locals. You can absolutely find a fully English-speaking internship in marketing or communication. It all depends on the type of company you join, but English is generally required in this field to facilitate communication with partners, clients, and other stakeholders.

Doing your internship in communication and/or marketing in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is an excellent idea! Prague is home to a large number of companies, meaning there are plenty of professional and internship opportunities. The capital also hosts many international companies, making it easy to find an English-speaking internship in marketing or communication. It’s a vibrant city that can provide a highly enriching experience in this field. Interning in marketing or communication in Prague is also a great way to build an international professional network. You’ll have the chance to meet people in your industry and create valuable international connections. This might not seem important at first, but you never know what the future holds—these contacts could be crucial for your career. That’s why this aspect should not be overlooked. Additionally, the cost of living in Prague is lower than in France. It offers the perfect balance between an affordable lifestyle and a high quality of life, making your stay in this city truly enjoyable.

No problem! It is absolutely possible to do your internship in another city in the Czech Republic. I can recommend three main cities where you could go for your internship abroad.

The first city I can introduce to you is Brno, the second-largest city in the country. Brno offers plenty of professional opportunities, as it is home to many international and local companies. It is also a university city, with a large institution—Masaryk University—that welcomes international students, creating a strong presence of students and professionals from all over the world. The cost of living in Brno is even lower than in Prague, while the city offers a rich social and cultural life. It’s a great place to live, making it an excellent opportunity and a strong option for doing your internship abroad in communication and marketing in the Czech Republic.

The second city in the Czech Republic I’m going to tell you about is Pilsen (Plzen in Czech). This city is located southwest of Prague, less than a hundred kilometers away. It is the fourth-largest city in the country. Pilsen is home to many companies, including international ones, and offers a wide range of internship opportunities. You’ll have plenty of options when it comes to the type of company you want to intern with. Pilsen is a university city with several institutions, making it a dynamic place that will allow you to find a marketing/communication internship. The city is also known for its numerous cultural and artistic events, as well as its historical sites, giving you plenty to explore during your free time. English is predominantly spoken in international companies in Pilsen. However, knowing a few words of Czech can help facilitate communication with certain clients or local companies. But keep in mind that even without mastering Czech, you’ll still be able to do your internship in a company, and it won’t be a barrier in your internship search.

Finally, the third city where you can do your internship abroad in marketing and communication is Ostrava. Ostrava is located in the northwest of the Czech Republic and is an industrial city. It can be an interesting place for your international internship. Ostrava is a growing city, offering internship opportunities in marketing/communication across various sectors. Before starting your internship in Ostrava, it’s important to know which industry you want to work in so you can find the company that aligns with your expectations and interests. Internship opportunities might be slightly fewer than in Prague or Brno, but it’s still very possible to find one in this city. Ostrava is a vibrant student city with a variety of cultural activities and events that will enrich your internship experience. In Ostrava, people speak fluent English, and it is the primary language used in most international companies.

These are just three other options for internships outside of Prague, but you’ll definitely find other interesting cities where it’s completely possible to do an internship abroad.

Whether you’re in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzen, or any other city, you’ll always find plenty of activities to do in the Czech Republic during your free time. No matter which city you choose, I think visiting Prague during your stay is a must. You’ll discover a beautiful city with medieval architecture, its bridges, and castles. You can also visit Český Krumlov or Kutná Hora to explore Greek history and culture. Visiting art and history museums, such as the National Museum or the Jewish Museum in Prague, will allow you to learn even more about Czech culture. As mentioned earlier, the Czech Republic also hosts many festivals and cultural events. It can be worth attending at least one or two to discover Czech music, food, and cinema. Did you know that the Czech Republic is home to many spa towns? If you want to relax and enjoy your free time, you can visit them and experience the benefits of thermal waters. If you’re in Prague, you can also take advantage of the Czech nightlife by visiting bars, concerts, or clubs. And if you want to do some shopping, you can visit local markets where you’ll discover more local specialties or bring back some typical Czech souvenirs.
