First of all: take cash with you, few signs take credit cards at the moment. The cost of living is about 50% lower in Senegal. Milk is twice as expensive, but all fruits, vegetables, cereals and other foods are 2x cheaper. Cigarettes too! Restaurants cost 5 euros on average, on the other hand, being a “tourist” the locals will generally make you pay more. It’s up to you to negotiate well so you don’t get fooled! To give you an idea, the average salary of a Senegalese is about 200 euros.

Doing an engineering internship in Senegal: administrative side

No visa is required for a stay of less than 3 months in Senegal: your simple passport will suffice, with a validity of at least 6 months. Your French driver’s license may be sufficient, but be careful if you need an international license: it is easy to apply for and will allow you to go to border countries. A list of vaccinations is also mandatory, you can find it on the website of the Pasteur Institute!
