You have to do an internship in Europe? An internship in Malta is starting to tempt you? Then here are a few tips for an internship abroad in Malta!
Speak English, but not Maltese
For your internship in Malta, you won’t need to learn Maltese. English will be more than enough, as long as you know how to speak it well. Why is that? Because Malta was colonised by the United Kingdom: 80% of the population speaks English fluently.
Administrative formalities for your internship in Malta
Your simple passport or identity card is more than enough if you are a citizen of the European Union (except Croatia and Switzerland – non-EU member). If your internship is longer than 90 days, you will need a residence permit, which can be easily obtained in Valletta, or you can register by mail at the Department for Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs in Valletta, or by going directly to their offices. A few weeks later, you will receive a letter to collect your residence card. If you need other documents to work during your traineeship, your employer will take care of this. The working week is 40 hours per week (please don’t be lazy).
Cultural and sports activities
During your internship in Malta you will have the opportunity to attend many religious ceremonies, especially during the Easter period. Also, you will be able to see a lot of fireworks for the pleasure of the eyes. Some museums, a rich architecture and exhibitions are also possible cultural activities. On the sports side, rent a bike. Already, the island is quite congested and Maltese people drive any way they can. And above all, if you want to combine landscape discovery and sport, this is the best way. Take hiking shoes too.
Several possible operators: Vodafone, Melida, GO … and the network is of very good quality. The optical fiber is very widespread, you will be able to download quick movies or watch Netflix in peace. There’s a big package offer a bit like in France with a different number of Gigas/price.
